NHS Anti Smoking advert

This is an amazing anti smoking advert! It so clever and I am convinced that if this doesn't manage to get his mum to quit smoking, nothing will! Could you imagine the shock for a parent to find this advert of their child in the ok magazine? It also gets the message across to the whole audience that smokers sometimes don't see that smoking effects the 3rd party. Smokers may realise that smoking is harmful to there own health and that it might kill them, but it puts it into perspective that they are hurting other people not just themselves. They could leave a child without a parent!
Simples

This is definitely one of my favourite TV Commercials over the summer. Its very original and memorable. It would be the price comparison website that I would use if were to use one. It works in many different ways. It is funny, it has a fantastic micro site - compare the meerkat.com (were you can actually compare meekats, before being directed to compare the market.com. It has also got a lot of the general public saying the catch phrase simples, which helps promote the website further!

Blek le Rat

This is a street artist I have only just discovered. Blek le Rat has been stencilling, pasting and daubing his way around the world for nearly 30 years. But the perception of Banksy as the pioneer of street art is certainly the one favoured by the media and art world. As a result, Banksy’s artistic reputation has been helped by is anonymity. Blek has been working on ironic self-portraits, stencilled socio-political commentary and, interestingly rats since 1981.

London's 2012 Logo

I really hate this logo and think its really disappointing. The jagged emblem is based on the date 2012, and it comes in a series of shades of pink, blue, green and orange and will evolve in the run-up to the Games, I hope it will evolve into a whole new logo by 2012! London 2012 has stated that the new logo is aimed at reaching young people. Sebastian Coe stated that it builds upon everything that the organising committee has said "about reaching out and engaging young people, which is where our challenge is over the next five years"
I think these are better

The invention of lying

I am a big fan of Ricky Gervais' work and I really enjoyed this film. The Invention of Lying about the concept of lying does not exist. Everyone from politicians to advertisers to the man and woman on the street speaks the truth and nothing but the truth with no thought of the consequences. When Mark suddenly develops the ability to lie, he finds that dishonesty has its rewards. In a world where every word is assumed to be the absolute truth, Mark easily lies his way to fame and fortune. But lies have a way of spreading, and Mark begins to realise that things are getting a little out of control when some of his lies are being taken as gospel. With the entire world now hanging on his every word, there is only one thing Mark has not been able to lie his way into: the heart of the woman he loves.

The art of looking sideways

The art of looking sideways is a book by Alan Fletcher. It has lots of interesting facts that offers a wonderfully twisted vision of the chaos of modern life. Describing himself as a "visual jackdaw", master designer Alan Fletcher has spent a lifetime collecting images, useless information, and quotations that take his fancy. This work portrays his collection of facts into a quirky and entertaining read!
Flanimals

These are drawings of funny little monsters (Flanimals) by Ricky Gervais. I really enjoy all of Ricky Gervais' work - The Office, Extras, all his stand ups and his podcasts with Karl Pilkington and Steven Merchants are hilarious to. This book called Flanimals may not be that well known with everyone so I thought it needed to be shared! Every time I look at this book it makes me laugh!

Get around above ground

This is a promotional illustration created by Bonner to promote National Bike Week, the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK. I think this is really clever as it uses the most recognised logo in London to create a really strong, clear and memorable logo of its own to advertise Bike Week, where roads were closed to cars, in order to get people out on there bikes on the streets of London. Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London was a big supporter of this campaign.

NHS anti smoking advertising

I thought this was an extremely clever design for an advert targeting parents who smoke. I think the child's handwriting really strongly conveys the innocence and vulnerability of children and how impressionable they can be. Its a really simple poster but is very effective in delivering a strong message to the parents.

Phillipe Stark

Phillipe Stark is certainly one of my favourite designers and this is one of my favourite pieces of his and one of his most famous designs. The Juicy Salif was designed by Stark in 1990 and it is not actually meant to squeeze. It is considered an icon of industrial design and it has been displayed in museums such as New York's Museum of Modern Art. Originally, it was inspired by squeezing a lemon over a squid in a seafood restaurant, but many observers think it looks like a spider. It is manufactured by Italian kitchenware company Alessi. Its diameter is 14 cm, height 29 cm, and it is made from cast and polished aluminum.
For the tenth anniversary of its launch, 10,000 were individually numbered and gold plated. There has also been a gray/black version. Both are now collector’s items, the gray/black version are particularly hard to find. The gold plated version was described as an ornament because the citric acid in a lemon discolors and erodes the gold plating. Stark is even rumored to have said, "My juicer is not meant to squeeze lemons; it is meant to start conversations".

The Millau bridge

wow
The Millau Viaduct is an enormous cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the river Tarn near Millau in southern France. Designed by the structural engineer Michel Virlogeux and British architect Norman Foster, it is the tallest vehicular bridge in the world, with one mast's summit at 343 metres.
The bridge’s construction broke three world records:
The highest pylons in the world
The highest mast in the world
The highest road bridge deck in the world.
Intriguingly, the Millau Viaduct is not straight. A straight road could induce a sensation of floating for drivers, which a slight curve remedies. The curve is 20km in range. Moreover, the road has a light incline of 3% to improve the visibility and reassure the driver.

The Shard of Glass

Architecture is one of my favourite parts of design. I especially like modern architecture and skyscrapers, but I have never really liked England's modern architecture, which generally I think looks pretty ugly! However I am pleased to say The Shard will be a striking new addition to the London skyline, commanding panoramic views across the capital doubling the height offered from the London Eye. I really approve of The Shard and I think it looks brilliant. The Shard will become the tallest building in London. The design consists of several glass facets that incline inwards but do not meet at the top, and is inspired by the masts of ships that once anchored on the Thames. The 72-storey building contains offices, apartments, a hotel and spa, retail and restaurants and is topped by a 15-storey public viewing gallery. At an inspiring height of 306 metres (1,016 feet) and with a total 72 occupied floors reaching skyward into a breathtaking 15 story spire, the Shard London Bridge Quarter is set to be the tallest building in Western Europe. The master architect, Renzo Piano, designed the Shard as a ‘vertical city’ that includes a public piazza, world class office space, an exclusive collection of residential apartments which will be the highest residential apartments in the UK and will be serviced by Europe’s first 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, retail space, restaurants, and a public viewing gallery.
